Writers Guidelines
If you are interested in becoming a Staff Writer for Frontier Freedom, or if you would like to submit an article or photographs, please contact us .
If you have an idea for an article (and/or photographs) that you think the readers of Frontier Freedom online magazine would enjoy, please contact us . Take a look at our home page to see a general list of the
types of articles we're looking for. You're not limited to that, but
you'll get the idea. You may either e-mail us with your idea, or go ahead and send your completed article. We're looking for good, solid informatin and inspiring stories that will help others fulfull their dreams of a simpler, more independent and satisfying life. Even if you don't think you write well enough to be published, but you have information you'd like to share with our readers, we'll be happy to work with you. Just send us an e-mail and we'll go from there.
We're always looking for photographs. If you have some interesting photographs, but not an article, let us know. We very well may be able to use it for one of our covers, or within an article. We often get articles without pictures. We'll certainly give you credit for your work.
Below you'll find a few guidelines for articles. We're not too sticky about things, but if you follow them, it will be MUCH easier for us to publish your articles, and will save you lots of time. If you don't want to take the time to read these guidelines, then just keep things really simple by including your article in the body of your e-mail or a basic WORD Document, and then e-mail the pictures to us separately. Don't do any fancy formatting or try placing your pictures within the article, which we have to remove anyway before we can publish your article.
Now, if you really want to help us out a bunch so that we can spend more time working on improving the magazine rather than editing articles, here is the ideal way we'd like to receive articles. Again, we won't reject it if you don't follow the guidelines. We're mostly after good information. But, this will make our days at the computer go smoother, and will save you some time, as well.
1. We prefer that you send the article in the body of an e-mail. Please be clear in the subject line that it is an article for Frontier Freedom magazine. We will not open attachments (because of the risk of computer viruses and such) unless we have requested that you send something that way. If you prefer, you can e-mail us first with your idea, and then send the article later.
2. Please do not use any formatting. By that, I mean do not waste time on highlighting special headings, using bold font or special fonts for different parts of your article, or anything like that. All of that has to be removed before it can be put into the website, so it's just a waste of time for you and for us. If you want, you can type in the headings (or we can do that later), and indicate where you'd like which pictures. Your story won't be rejected if it contains formatting, but it's just simpler for us if you don't.
3. MOST IMPORTANT, please do not include pictures within the content of your article. We've found that we usually can't save the pictures that way, we end up having to ask that the pictures be sent separately, and it greatly increases the time it takes to prepare your article for publication. If a certain picture must go in a certain place, just make a note where you would like the picture to go. For example, you could say something like, "Place the photo of the purple polka-dotted possum here". Then e-mail the pictures separately.
4. We live remote and have a fairly slow internet connection, so please do not send any graphics with your initial e-mail. However, please let us know if you have pictures and how many, as we like to have photographs or sketches to go along with the articles. If it's a large file, it may be necessary to send only one or two pictures at a time. We'll be in touch with you to decide the best way to send them.
5. Since we live in the bush and do not have postal service, it's best to e-mail us with your ideas and articles. If you send them through regular mail, it could be months before we receive them.
6. This one's not a big deal at all, but it will save us a little time if you only single space between sentences, and double space between paragraphs. Also, please don't indent the start of your paragraphs.
OK, that's about it. If you took the time to read this far, THANK YOU! We're looking forward to having you join Frontier Freedom!
